Editing & Cleaning Up Document Images

When scanning real paperwork, documents may be placed slightly askew, have black marks along the paper edge because the scanner cover was not fully closed, or the pages may be yellowed from age. VHDoc provides built-in automatic image enhancement tools that work with a single click.

1. Automatic enhancement tools

Auto-deskew pages — Shortcut: Ctrl + D

  • If you accidentally placed paper slightly off in the scan tray, making the captured image skewed:
  • Just click the "Deskew" button (or press Ctrl + D), and the software will calculate the skew angle and rotate the page straight immediately.

Auto-crop black paper edges — Shortcut: C

  • When scanning small paper on a large glass surface, a black band often appears at the edge:
  • Click the "Crop edges" button so the software automatically trims the black edges around the page, keeping only the white content area.

Rotate pages — Shortcut: R

  • Rotate right 90°: Press R.
  • Rotate left 90°: Press Shift + R.
  • Flip 180°: For cases where paper was fed upside down.

Clean up background & smudges — Shortcut: Ctrl + B

  • Removes tiny dust specks and yellowed stains on old paper backgrounds, making text stand out sharply.

Quick auto-fix everything — Shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + A

  • Automatically performs all 3 actions in sequence: Deskew + Crop black edges + Sharpen text in a single operation.

2. Undo and restoring the original image

  • If you accidentally make a wrong edit: press Ctrl + Z to go back to the previous step.
  • If you want to discard all edits and return to the image as it was right after scanning: press Ctrl + Shift + R (Restore original image).
